Pretty Plate Cover
by Mary Wilkins

Here is a great hostess gift! If you are taking a tray of goodies to a holiday event or even just a picnic you can leave this behind for the hostess.

Supplies:

- One dinner plate.
- Fabric slightly larger than plate
- Clear plastic for lining
- Elastic or ribbon
- Button

Cut a circle of pretty fabric approximately two inches larger than your plate. Cut a piece of thin, clear plastic same size and shape as fabric circle.

Find and mark the centre of the fabric circle. Place plastic circle next to wrong side of fabric.

Finish off raw edge of circles with serger or turn under about 1/2". Stitch down leaving an opening for inserting ribbon.

Another option is to zig zag elastic around the entire outer edge of circle. You can embellish the fabric circle as I have or perhaps applique a food motif to the outside. This is where you can really use your imagination and have some fun.

If you prefer, sew a decorative button at the center mark on the right side of the circle stitching thru both plastic and fabric.

Place the plate cover over your plate of goodies and pull ribbon to tie a bow or allow elastic to pull cover secure.

The elastic on the outer edge will help to keep the cover snug. Your goodies are protected and your cover can be wiped out or thrown in the washer.
