Recycled Greeting Card Projects That You Can Make Yourself

Description: With a little creativity, you can transform an old greeting card into something new.

Every year, millions and millions of greeting cards are sent out on major holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, and other occasions. There are also cards to mark the birth of a child or express sympathy for the loss of a loved one. With all of these millions of cards being purchased, there is a lot of waste being created once the recipients decide they no longer need to display the cards in their homes. If everyone threw out their greeting cards, there would be a great deal of waste. New cards made with raw materials would have to be produced to replace the old cards. There’s a better way to deal with this problem. You can actually use your old greeting cards to create new projects that will make your home look great or brighten up the day of a loved one. All you need is a little imagination and some time to spend on doing your projects.

Create New Greeting Cards

You can use your old greeting cards to make new ones. Simply cut the fronts of your greeting cards off of the original card and paste them on to the front of a piece of folded cardstock or other sturdy paper that would make a good greeting card. You can then decorate your card using glitter, stamps, ribbons, and other decorations. People love to get homemade greetings and this lets you try out your creative skills.

Create Children’s Craft Projects

You can put your old cards to good use if you have children who like to color and use safety scissors. Gather all of your old cards and let your kids cut them up and use them to make collages and other creative projects. This is a great way for kids to express their creativity and artistic abilities. As long as they’re being supervised when they’re using scissors, this is a safe, fun project.

Scrapbooking

Some greeting cards have such beautiful pictures or poetry that they’re hard to throw away. However, they do take up a lot of valuable storage space. Why not use those pictures and blocks of text in your scrapbook? Choose a picture or quote that matches a page in your scrapbook and attach it to that page. You can then embellish the page even further with die cuts, stickers, pictures, and other items.

Donate Your Cards

Many senior citizen centers and after-school programs accept donations of used greeting cards. The seniors and students can use the cards in craft projects that will keep them busy doing something creative. Check with your local organization before dropping off a bundle of cards; many want only the fronts so you will have to cut them off and dispose of the backs yourself.

Create Your Own Stationery

You can create note cards by cutting out pictures from your old greeting cards and gluing them on to small pieces of sturdy cardstock. You can also add embellishments like glitter, colored markings, stamps, and other decorations that will let your personality shine through.
