Wrapping Presents with Dollar Store Finds

Description: Tips for wrapping presents and handmade gifts with inexpensive dollar store finds.
If you're like me and value the importance of the presentation when giving gifts, you know the high cost of wrapping supplies. Rolls of wrapping paper can sometimes cost seven dollars and upwards, and for a roll of ribbon that's barely enough to wrap a single gift, you can easily shell out three or more dollars. Add a pretty bow or a silk flower as an adornment and you'll end up paying nearly as much for the wrapping as you did for the present itself. And let's face it -- most of us just don't have that kind of money to spend on something that's just going to get torn and crumpled and thrown away.
But you don't have to sacrifice the aesthetics of wrapping a beautiful package on account of cost.
Dollar stores are a great place to shop for wrapping supplies. With everything in the store priced at a single dollar (and sometimes two or three for a dollar), you can stock up on the supplies you want and not blow your budget. Most dollar stores have an entire section of gift-wrapping supplies, including rolls of wrapping paper, bags of bows, large spools of curling ribbon, gift boxes, tissue paper, and even the fancy shopping bags that come complete with matching gift cards. At Christmastime, you'll often even find those expensive foil papers, the ones that are priced so exorbitantly in the department stores, mixed right in with the other gift-wrap. If you're persistent in your dollar store hunting, you can also find baskets, silk ribbons, and other creative wrapping supplies on occasion.
Contrary to popular belief, the items purchased in dollar stores are not always poorer in quality than regular-priced merchandise. Yes, sometimes the wrapping paper will be thinner, or the roll smaller, but on the other hand, some of the best curling ribbon I've purchased has been found at dollar stores. For a dollar, it's worth taking a chance, and though thinner wrapping paper might tear more easily, with a little care, it wraps just as well and looks just a pretty.
In addition, dollar stores often have decent selections of silk flowers and seasonal baubles that make great tie-ons for an extra touch on a wrapped gift. Though the silk flowers you'll find at a dollar store are not normally of the quality that you'd want for a dining room centerpiece, they're perfect for a finishing touch on a gift-wrapping job.
The fun part of dollar stores is that you never know what little gift-wrapping treasures you'll find, and when you do find things that are to your liking, it's easy to stock up so you'll be able to wrap gift after beautiful gift.
