How to Make a Fall Leaf Glass Hanging
by Kathy Wilson

Description: How to make a beautiful glass window hanging from pressed fall leaves.

One of my favorite activities in the fall is to find and press those beautiful autumn leaves. It did present a problem though; what to do with all of them. The Budget Decorator has a great home decorating craft project to help you take those fall leaves and do something really special, inexpensive, and very decorative!

Supplies:

  • Supply of pressed fall leaves (silk leaves from the craft store will work as well)
  • Two empty picture frames of equal size
  • Permanent marker, if desired
  • Scotch or clear tape
  • Chain to hang with

How to:

Take both your picture frames and remove the glass from one of them. This is all you will be using of this second frame, you can put the rest away for a future project.

Make sure your glass is clean. If you want more definition for the leaves, trace the edges with black or brown permanent marker. Some of my students have used frosted glass paint on the glass before doing the project. If you choose to do this, follow directions on the paint container, and allow to dry thoroughly before continuing.

Place the leaves on the glass in your desired pattern. Now sandwich the other frames glass over the leaves. Using scotch tape, seal the edges of the glass together. You may need help with this.

Place the glass back into the frame, making sure your design faces outward. Bend the frames metal clasps onto the back of the glass to hold it in place.

Add a hanging chain with a picture hanging kit, and hang in front of a window for the best effect.

This is an easy, fun and really cheap home decorating project. You can make one for every window, in almost any size. Try grouping like colored leaves together. Use many different shapes for interest. Most of all, enjoy the beauty...anyone can do this project!
