Keeping a Homemaking Journal
by Jill Black

Description: Ideas for creating a homemaking journal to pass down to your daughter or daughter-in-law.

Throughout the ages (especially during the Victorian era) homemaking journals were commonly passed down through the generations from daughter-to-daughter and often given to daughter-in-laws as well.

To create a legacy of your home life, buy a journal designed for the purpose or alternatively use a spiral bound book, pages inserted into a ring binder or get creative and try your hand at scrap-booking to create some stunning pages that will allow your unique personality and creativity to shine through.

What do you put into your homemaking journal?

Many journals often include:

- Favorite family recipes

- Pressed flowers from the garden

- Homemaking hints and tips

- Family holiday traditions

- Home remedies and first aid tips in case of emergency

- Drawings and sketches

- Daily routines

- A photo of a special family gathering along with hand written notes

- Quotes, poems, a verse from the bible, special words or phrases that inspire love of home and family

- Love letters or special cards

- Birthdays and anniversary memories

- Pets and helpful hints and tips

- Children's party games, activities, projects and recipes e.g. play dough and other fun stuff

- Gardening tips and tricks, planting favourites, when to prune and more .

- Seasonal - what to do before and after each season e.g. storing winter clothes and more,

Or anything that has special meaning and reflects your love of home and family and what it means to your life.
