Make a Mini Scrapbook - Inexpensive Paper Bag Scrapbook Project with Your Kids
by Erik Birkeland

Description: How to make a quick, easy scrapbook from paper lunch bags.

If you are short on time but would still like to have a scrapbook then consider making a mini scrapbook. It is possible to make one of these in a fraction of the time that it would take to make a traditional scrapbook. You can make a mini scrapbook down to sizes of 6x6 instead of the standard 12x12. Like a traditional scrapbook you can either purchase a pre-made scrapbook or make one yourself. If you are feeling creative then take a look at making your own mini scrapbook.

To get started you will want to select the pictures that you will be using and organize them by page. Now decide the theme and layout you will want to use. There are a number of types of mini scrapbooks that you can make. The good news is that these are quite inexpensive to make. Let's take a look at one type that you might find surprising that can be used to make a mini scrapbook.

This mini scrapbook is made from paper lunch bags. (Note that paper bags are not acid free so you can expect this type to break down over time.) Don't use your original photos with a paper bag mini scrapbook because it isn't acid free and will eventually damage the photographs. This type of mini scrapbook is great to make with your kids as a weekend project. It's always great to spend time with your kids and make something together.

To make the scrapbook do the following steps:

  • Put two or more paper bags on top of each other.
  • Fold the paper bags in half. This will make the spine of the scrapbook.
  • Now down the spine punch holes about 3/4" apart.
  • You can use ribbon, ties or metal binding clips to finish the binding of the scrapbook.

Now that the mini scrapbook is ready you can select the embellishments you want to use and start decorating the scrapbook. Follow these steps to finish your mini scrapbook:

  • Organize how you want the pages to look
  • Create your background and/or borders
  • Crop and mat your pictures
  • Start placing the pictures into the scrapbook
  • Put journaling onto each page of the scrapbook
  • Add the embellishments

Congratulations you have made a mini scrapbook from scratch and it undoubtedly looks great. These are excellent projects to do. Make sure to include your kids while making them and have a wonderful time. Happy scrapbooking.
