Scrapbooking Ideas and Solutions - Using Photo Corners and How to Make Them
by Michel Maling

Description: Tips for making your own photo corners to coordinate with your scrapbook layouts.

Photo corners are traditional and old fashioned ways of attaching photographs to a page. The art of scrapbooking has made these small corners very popular once again. They add lovely finishing touches to photographs and they are usually made of paper with a gummed or self adhesive backing. There will normally be a huge variety of them at any craft or hobby shop. You can also make your own homemade photo corners, which you can colour code to suit your layout.

Factory Made Photo Corners:

You can purchase these in decorative shapes and a variety of colours. You can now even purchase clear vinyl self adhesive types. To use these shop bought photo corners, you just slide your photo corners over each corner of your photograph. If the back is gummed, just moisten, or peel away if they are self adhesive and stick the photograph down onto your layout pressing the corners down firmly - as simple at that.

Home Made Photo Corners:

If you want, you can also make your own, and in this way you can compliment your layout perfectly by using card stock or left over paper from your layout. They are a bit fiddly to make, but the final look will be well worth the trouble.

You will need a steel ruler, a craft knife and a cutting mat that has a grid on it. Cut a strip of paper 1cm x 2cm. Lay the strip onto the mat so that it fits into the grid. Lay your ruler across it from the midpoint of the top edge to one bottom corner. Fold up the triangle of paper. Next repeat the process on the opposite side to make a folded corner. Press the folds down well. Cut a triangle of double sided tape and stick it to the folded paper triangle to close the gap. Repeat this process for as many photo corners as you need.

Slide these corners onto your photograph as you do with the shop bought ones and stick your photograph onto your layout.

Photo corners can work wonderfully for old fashioned themed layouts, or layouts using old photographs. They will also add an elegant look to your special occasion or wedding photographs. Try using gold or silver corners for those glittering occasions. The plain corners work better for old or black and white photographs.
