How to Make Silky Soap Petals
by Karen Gadson

Description: Surprise someone special or a loved one with beautiful guest soap. This makes a great hostess gift! Washing your hands can be joyful when you create these smooth soap petals.

Here's what you will need to make Rose Petal Soap. Some of these items you already have and the other supplies can be found at a Arts & Crafts Store.

  • 4 silk roses in different colors
  • 1 lb. clear glycerin melt and pour soap base
  • Rose fragrance oil
  • Scissors
  • Kitchen knife
  • Microwave-safe glass container
  • Slotted spoon
  • Cake cooling rack
  • Waxed paper

Start by cutting individual petals from the roses with the scissors. Keep a few leaves for variety, pulling them off the plastic veins.

Dice enough glycerin soap to cover your petals and melt it in the microwave according to the directions. Leftover soap can be saved to re-melt for another project.

Add three drops of the fragrance oil to the melted soap until it reaches the desired strength.

Take a handful of rose petals and leaves and drop them into the melted soap base. Stir them gently until they are coated, and remove them with a slotted spoon, allowing the excess soap to drain off into the container.

Place the waxed paper beneath the cooling rack and spread the soap petals on it in a single layer. Turn the petals over once or twice to avoid marks forming from the rack and soap puddles on your petals.

Repeat the above steps until you have coated all the soap petals. Re-melt the soap as needed.

After the petals have cooled, put them in a decorative container with a lid. This will help prolong the fragrance. Use 2-3 petals to wash your hands, discarding them after use.
