How to Make a Fun T-Shirt Pillow
by Jackie Lee

Description: A t-shirt pillow is a fun craft project, as well as a great way to preserve a teen's favorite t-shirt.

This is a fun craft you can do with your kids, and would be great for a teenager getting ready to go to college. You can make this a family event for some quality craft time.

What you will need:

This is a simple craft and you will only need a couple things:

  • T-shirt
  • Pillow form
  • Pillow stuffing
  • Needle and thread or craft glue

First make sure you are starting with a clean and unstained t-shirt. To make this a sentimental project you can use concert t-shirts that no longer fit, or the t-shirt of a loved one who has passed or will no longer be with you. (Say a high school boyfriend going to a different college.)

If you are just doing this craft for fun, you can always go to your local salvation army and get cheap t-shirts.

First you want to sew the bottom together, and the edges of the sleeves. You can use glue here, but remember sewing will create a project that will last much longer.

Once you have the edges sewn together it's time to stuff your pillow. I have used a pillow form that will fill the majority of the square portion of the pillow, then use pillow foam to fill in the arms. You can use pillow foam for the entire project if you wish. Make sure to stuff the shirt so it is puffy and soft.

Once you have the stuffing all filled in, all that's left to do is sew the neck hole together. You can again sew this seam with a needle and thread or you can glue it together. If you plan to wash this pillow I highly suggest you use a needle and thread. Glue will not hold up in the washing machine and dryer.

There you have it, a cute t-shirt pillow. All that's left is decorating the outside of the pillow with some buttons or pins. You could also make one of these for your kids to take to school at the end of the school year to have all their friends sign as a memento of that school year.
